Biographical Information
A 4th year Doctoral Candidate at E-IPER, Narasimha is researching the welfare impacts of energy and future climate mitigation policies on household energy security in Maharashtra, India. He is developing and applying new welfare metrics related to access and reliability constraints in household fuels.
Prior to joining Stanford, Narasimha D. Rao spent four years as a Visiting Faculty at the Center for Public Policy in the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB). In addition to teaching classes in Public Policy, he provided expert advice to the Government of India and electricity regulators on electricity sector reforms. He has worked with NGOs, academics, international donor agencies and government.
Narasimha spent 7 years in energy consulting in the U.S. with Arthur D. Little and Tabors Caramanis and Associates, working with equipment manufacturers and utilities in the energy sector, on renewable energy technology commercialization, electricity market design and demand side management.
His publications include a co-authored book, papers in peer-reviewed journals, and several reports and op-eds on energy issues in India.
Narasimha graduated with two Masters from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, US, in Technology Policy and Electrical Engineering. He was a recipient of the Alfred Keil Fellowship for Wiser Uses of Science and Technology.
