- Caroline Scruggs

Biographical Information
Caroline Scruggs joined IPER as a doctoral student in the Fall of 2006, with a background in environmental engineering. She has a B.S. in Civil Engineering, a M.S. in Environmental Engineering, and worked for ten years as an environmental consultant on global water quality projects. Now, instead of developing strategies to remove trace levels of contaminants from environmental systems, she has shifted her focus upstream to source control of chemicals that may be hazardous to humans and/or the environment. Caroline’s research centers on European and American chemicals policy; the new REACH legislation in the EU and the role and responsibilities of businesses in contributing to consumer knowledge, information flow along supply chains, public health, and environmental protection are of particular interest. Caroline has written numerous articles in professional and peer-reviewed journals, is a licensed professional engineer, and has taught environmental courses as a visiting lecturer at UNC-Chapel Hill, Virginia Tech, and the University of Kansas. Aside from her studies, she enjoys yoga, running, cycling, hiking, and most any outdoor activity, and has passions for traveling, pottery, painting, and music.
